An interesting mistake

I mean sometimes mistakes have positive outcomes, less often though! Context is all, etc.

In the 5×5 we have two dedicated UV tubes. These are at much lower nm wave lengths than what you get in a grow light. I think these ones run about 200nm to 540nm. I sorta know what means but for growing purposes UV at these wavelengths you’re looking at pest control. They’re actually at the higher wavelength mostly than you want for Powdery Mildew or potentially white fly – but not always easy to buy.

These are designed for killing bacteria in water systems and stuff. We have some stronger ones never installed Philips won’t actually sell you without a business reason in some countries (UK for example) But they are to be used in a closed box. I’ve only every run the less hardcore ones for about 30 seconds but always after dark – when the lights were out. I wait until about 30 minutes after. Why?

Powdery Mildew dies with UV – but like the Death Star it has a shield, it has a complete shield from UV because obviously the sun, under which is its natural habitat, is full of UV. A guy by the name of “Lucky” military type, I think, tipped me to this. My take on it is; like the Death Star, it has a fatal flaw. When the sun goes down, the shield goes down. So zap them after dark, eh? Its hard to find studies on this, for cannabis or any other plant but there are some. I’ll be looking them up tomorrow so maybe drop some links. But they were like 9 second doses. I would give them 20-30 seconds.

Tonight they got an hour. I mean that’s 3600 seconds. Minimum. 50/50 between lights on and off. Ooopsie!

I mean these were looking like possibly being the finest plants we ever grew. I guess I’ll know how long is too long? Or I’ll find they did bugger all anyway. Or I’ll have a bunch of mutants popping out the tent by morning. Really not sure – severe sunburn, maybe? That’s what I’m leaning to. In the other hand, late grow blasts of UV meant to be best. Here they are before the accident:

See how they look in the morning!
