The Best 4x4xFAR For Us

I do think its possible to get a kilo out of a 4×4 growing in solo cups

I’ve struck out, tried 3x and averaged 500g. The story of those is grows is written elsewhere. 1000w HPS with 315 CMH? In a tent outdoors in the tropics? I’ll be probably the only person ever to have done that! Gave us 650+ grams though. Hermied a lot, the lights, cooling and timers weren’t up to it. This same light has given 480 and 520 grams? Its “only” 480w, FC4800 Evo, form Mars, I think the sweet spot is 650W, also the footprint on Evo 4800’s is smaller than the FCE’s. We haven’t added gas on these grows for a while and its really the watering. In solos you’re just all about feeding more often in coco. You get that you’re using coco (if you are like us) closer to a more pure hydro/aqua style. Or rockwool, whatever. Growing is a side gig, if I was truly dedicated I’d run timers to them. But what’s the point of this seemingly futile pursuit?

Solos are a stylistic thing. A handy sized 16oz, pint sized sorta. Depends where you’re from. Maybe they’re too small, the first grow under HPS that ran the heaviest was 18 plants. We’ve just done 12 since. Its savings, savings on medium, savings on fert, on light, depending on how low a wattage you can get away with. We look like we’ll maybe beat that first number this time. We haven’t changed anything other than progress to I think 2 liter, half gallon pots. 4-5x more volume. It means we can just water once a day. There’s enough medium to retain some between. Medium cost money though! Two pounds off half a light, hmm, (A light I’d say has typically meant a 1000w DE) 480w LED, half a light? Its good growing.

These girls are big, biggest buds we’ve had in the 4×4, not close to the biggest buds ever and they won’t trouble them, nor will they get much bigger. 4 weeks more maybe? Not sure. They flipped quicker than the 5×5.

I’ll bid you 617 grams out of here. Its pretty, Liberty Haze old school, The closest close up is of a Banner and there’s some pineapple chunk, they all like longer so maybe more than 4 weeks. Of the 4 production (non clone) grows this has been the easiest. The least I check. They just chillout, its a little cooler in there than I’d like but the exhaust air feeds to the 8×4 and that’s pretty perfect so because we run a chain of three tents its give and take, not just between the tents but we sometimes have Clones/Seedlings – Flower – Veg in the sequence, we did until two weeks ago, but this is more just play around stuff. Leftovers. But pretty good ones!

  1. I think it’s nice that you switched to GH 3 part. Then you actually get some NPK values and its probably one of the most stable and adjustable plant food there is.

People do the 3 part others do Lucas formula with only the Micro and Bloom. I’ve seen best results with the complete food (3 part) in coco coir and containers.

    1. It was mostly just running out the Dutch Pro and having it on hand! But trying something new just on a clone/mother tent seemed like a good spot. Although actually its the most expensive genetics we ever paid for!

We’ll see, I need to order some CalMag in the next couple of weeks, I’ll hunt out his price list and see how they compare and how the plants are doing. It would have to be a decent saving and same or better results with the plants to change – better the devil you know!
