Unfazed and jaded by the light… – Catch & Release

Electrical woes, decapitations and births

Every growers’ favourite breakfast, a starter of an electrical phase out, followed by a full power cut with a soupçon of dodgy LED electrics. I was sitting at my desk at 7:30 this morning and the room felt wrong, my table light was off, one month old bulb and the ceiling fan was off, my Lizard brain knew something was off. Shrew brain not far behind it. Lights on is 8am but I stole I glance inside, I was a bit worried about adding another AC in the flower room, even to the point of worrying about something burning out, I established that the new white ducting needs wrapping in a black refuse back, it lets in the morning sun from the East, seemed coolish in there (32c 😅) but when 8am came only one of the two magnetic switches activated, so just one out of three lights on. I flicked the other switch to manual et voila! All three lights on.

It was short lived joy, downstairs the green light for Timer Bank 2 was indeed on, but no lights on at all, my manual chicanery was of no help. & Co called the Provincial Electricity Authority and they said “No problem our side!” By a weird bit of luck our Sparky decided screw his job this morning he was going to come see us instead, no idea, probably got paid yesterday for his day job and fancied an extra $30 from us! Anyway, shortly after that all the power went off. I went for a little trip down the road and lo!

That would be a phase out there.

That would be the other end. I’m not quite sure how that came to pass. Someone said an accident, basically every time it rains people crash into power poles. Three people died in two accidents doing that very thing last week, (plus a lady decapitated by barbed wire 30m from the road she crashed off, mentioned only for her first-rate stylistic endeavors)

The body of one of the Frenchmen involved in the crash who had sustained serious wounds and whose left leg had been badly severed was found in the road near the Mounment. The 39-year-old man’s passport was found at the scene and police confirmed he was wearing a crash helmet.

The Phuket News

There’s stuff like this every week, no not the bad journalism, (badly severed? I guess I’ll take Rosalind’s position on that absolute pedantry here,) the other day it was with better grammar, “The body of Pongsarit was discovered in a gruesome state. His head was partially severed and certain body parts were dispersed throughout the area.” Oh yeah anyway electricity. None for two hours. Sparkey redid the Meijiu light looking for light bank crosses. Didn’t find any.

I’ve had a second sparky (Thanks @abs) review my working, I mean he can’t have hands on it, and I haven’t sent detailed photographs, but just trying to figure out what it might be. We even switched out the replacement dimmer came a couple of months ago, no idea. But he’s back on Sunday, and Meijiu have now taken notice, they want detailed photos of the wiring, yesterday he didn’t want to talk to me (ever again!) but I seem to have piqued his interest now. Anyway getting a new different light next week.

Mine is 820w with UV. Says Rizen on it. Rizen make Gavita. See in the text “Assembled in the USA” not made in. Anyway including delivery, $305USD Bargain. Its for the second 5×5. Having discovered that even the loss of a single phase means the house can’t run fully? Buy another light! $50 is delivery, and trust me it doesn’t get “assembled” any better in the US – likely worse as its a further potential failure point in the manufacturing process. Still I’d like that Meijiu perfect, its got to be possible. C’mon Mark?! Lets make it work? Be happy ever after? When it worked it was easy the best light I’ve ever used or seen. Really.

The VPD is a little below where I’d really like it, I can drop the Rh and it will push the Temp up, there’s 1.8 in about10 minutes! I’ll have a little play later, but you can see the big light period missing between 9am and 11am today. It is what it is. Have to trust they’ll just get on with it, storms, day as black as night this stuff happens. Not sure its worth panicking about ruining the plants for a couple of hours of it.

About to feed them again, then tomorrow bump the fert up a bit? I’ll see what 3.5ml per litre looks like maybe. We’re going into pour 6th full week of 10. We can run a few days high and see what it looks like. Then taper, taper, wish I could freeze the room once a day, just a blast of 10c air for a minute. My dreams are cold bright places.

Myco arrived while I was writing this. I ordered White Shark having previously only used Dynomyco. There’s a great online store on both Shopee and Lazada Thailand – only anyone reading here in Thailand going to find (wait there are readers?) this useful but Philosopher Stoned per the picture, where I get all the little amendments and additives, Dr Weed Mono Silic for example. They grey/parallel import and divide smaller. So I got 100g Great White myco, great for using in say the DWC because unlike the 25g (of free!) Dynomyco he threw in for free its water soluable. Just a super generous gesture of goodwill ’cause he was like a day late shipping. Good people are out there. He’s probably getting stoned and philosophising now – “With what that guy spends on Mono Silic he can have all the Dynomyco he wants!” 😆 Thank you bro, anyway.

That’s about it for the day. Oh Sunday, I’m thinking of dropping to 10 hours of light. Not sure. Either this Sunday or next. Its a sort of DLI play. 🎶 Autumn days and all that….. Next weekend maybe as I have to work this weekend. Long day, 13 hours pretty much in this chair. Not done yet.

Births? Yeah of course the stupid rabbit the chef bought wasn’t a bloke. It was a lady rabbit in men’s clobber. And yes she’s given birth, 3 we’re seen so far, they burrowed an escape tunnel into & Co’s herb garden which they trash every so often, but apparently below that they have a living room and nursery. Bavette lapin jeune all round then, eh? Got plenty of wooden skewers… Or perhaps a rabbit riff on Ortolan Bunting the best video of it being eaten (its fiction but likely based on a true stor) is the Billions scene Basically you catch these tiny song birds, Ortolan, in bigs nets, then you know, you blind them, helps fatten them up, overfeed them, kill them by drowning them in Armagnac, roast them and eat them whole, legs first with a large linen napkin over your head – its not some Klan thing, though looks similar, strong look, but if possible worse, It was thought to be “an affront to the eyes of God himself” so you had to hide yourself from his gaze. I’ve never tried them, The Real Nick, he’s just the sort of bastard that has….

Anyway Rabbit Bunting? Its not illegal like Ortolan Bunting…. Well not that I know of, swap out the Armagnac for a little LLR… delish…

Yeah not that type, think more like this:

Reckon those baby rabbits… urgh, One day, lapin ou Krolik?

  1. what a clip – happy memories of Wags before he became a Dad joke.
Those wee buntings are magical, so they are.  No Armagnac in Cyprus so drowned in the local fortified sweet wine called Commadaria which was drunk at Richard the Lionheart’s wedding feast in the Cypriot port of Limassol.  No torture either apart from the drowning  – just sous-vided and then briefly on the grill that is usually reserved for the souvlakia.  Fortunately I take my own wine out there so the last time we paired the Ortolan with a couple of bottles of 15yr old Opus One which worked well.  The only thing missing was some of Nick Hardy’s bud for pudding.
